When a hairdresser has been in business for more than four decades, you know you’re onto something good. Our Director Marylin Whelan opened the salon on Shore Road, Remuera in 1977. She has since worked tirelessly to build the brand, which has become well known and much loved.

Although each of our stylists is highly trained in all aspects of hairdressing and excel at both men’s haircuts and hairstyles for women, they have each developed specialised skills in the areas of styling that they are individually passionate about.
We have some amazing colour experts in our team, from blonde colour specialists with immeasurable colour knowledge to specialist ombre and balayage colourists and colour correction experts. Other Marylin’s team members are incredibly skilled at up-dos and styling. It’s all about maximising our service so that you’re as happy as can be with your hair when you leave the salon.

What’s also hugely important to us at Marilyn’s is to drive sustainability in every way possible. We’re serious about reducing the impact we have on the planet, and we operate in a sustainable way; from the products we use to achieve the colours you love through to what packaging we choose and how we manage waste.
As a member of Sustainable Salons, we recycle as much as we can. This includes metals, paper, plastics, chemicals, cardboard, tools, and hair! Ponytails are donated to make medical wigs for people with cancer or alopecia, and left-over chemicals that we don’t use for your colour get recycled and made into water to clean our roads.
Hairstyles, colours and techniques may have changed over the years, and so has our team, but what hasn’t changed is Marilyn’s dedication to great service. We’re informed by the latest trends but place a strong emphasis on classic techniques and technical skill.
